Some friends

The figure on the left is supposed to be talking to someone on an electronic device that looks like an ipad.

Looks familiar

This wasn't what I was thinking of drawing when I originally thought about connection. I didn't like the ideas I came up with and while I was thinking about that I was reminded of an older drawing and made this drawing based on that. Perhaps what I feel about 'connection' in my life is different than what it means to me in my drawings.

Fancy cat

I wasn't really sure what I wanted to draw as I did this drawing, but by the end I had a better idea of what would work.  While I was drawing I thought about the idea of making a "simple" drawing and decided that being simple means that it doesn't have to be finished or done properly.

Colors for Christmas

Fashion ideas for Christmas

I couldn't think of what to draw today, but I came across a funny picture of someone dressed liked a present while I was searching they internet and that inspired me and made me laugh. I look forward to adding color later.

Cool clothes

Simple guy

I really like drawing clothing and using colors that I normally wouldn't find very attractive, so I decided to draw the same shirt from yesterday and play with the colors. I was just going to draw the shirt and then decided that I wanted the figures as well.  I kept the same poses the same from yesterday and that made it simple and fun for me. This drawing is also small and only use a small part of the page.

Simple skull

Simple means small today. I usually feel obliged to fill an entire page, but today I decided to do a small drawing and only use a little piece of the page.  That feels simple.

Simple figure

In order to create some structure for our daily drawings, Deb came up with the idea of having an assignment or intention for the drawings. For today she said to make a "simple drawing".

Simple for me is just doing what comes naturally, which for me, is making figures.  When I scanned the drawing into the computer I decided to add and erase some lines with photoshop and then I decided to add color.  Yesterday somebody was talking about paintings from Picasso's blue and rose period. I like those paintings a lot, so I decided to add some blue.  It is simple thing to do with photoshop.

Weegee

This is Weegee relaxing on the couch. He is a black cat with white feet  and markings.  Sometimes it is hard to see details when I look at him- it is as if his features disappear.  I had to improvise a few things.

Remember to breathe

I realized today that I hold my breath when I draw.  I feel like I am in a rush- trying to complete the drawing as quickly as possible. I love drawing. Why do I rush?

What do I see?

Today I decided to draw some books.  As I looked at the books I thought to myself, "What do I see?,  Do I see 'books' or do I see lines in space?, Am I seeing with my eyes or with my thoughts?".  What I thought I saw made me anxious because my  mind told me that I could not draw three-dimensional object in space, but I told myself they are not books, but lines in space and I just need to draw what I see.
I decided to be patient, pay attention and draw was in front of me. I thought I drew exactly what I saw, but when I went back over  my lines to make them darker I realized that I had left 2 books out.  Even when I am paying attention I guess I am not really paying attention.

Desk with memories

I enjoyed doing the drawing because it reminded me yet again about looking.  From drawing I learn to see and pay attention. I did this drawing quickly, but I could have spent a very long time trying to understand how all these objects are related.

What skeletons think about

After I did this drawing I decided to try and stick with skeletons and clothing for my  next few drawings and see what happens. I notice that I tend to jump around with ideas and I would like to try to stay with one subject or image and stick with it and see how it grows.

December 11- Deb and Michele start a drawing-a-day

My last drawing was July 4, 2013.  For about a year I did a drawing a day and then that dissipated when I started getting involved in other projects. I miss drawing.  It was wonderful to have the daily discipline and one of the things that helped me to keep going was that I shared the process with a friend of mine who is a writer. I would draw and she would write a poem everyday and we posted our work on a blog.  It was  a wonderful process and it was amazing for me to see my drawings change and grow. I want to be back in this process and I want to be sharing it with someone, so I asked Deb to join me. I love Deb's drawings- they delight me, make me laugh, make me wonder and make me think.  I am so excited to share this space with her for as long as it lasts and even if its just for today, its already been great!
