Ladies
It's been hard getting back to drawing, so I decided to try drawing with my non-dominant hand again. This takes the pressure off. I can have the initial idea, but then my hand is responsible for what happens- I am off the hook.

Papers
I was thinking that instead of drawing a background I would try using different papers and see what that is like.

Figures from the left hand
I went to see a show of Carol Rama's work at the New Museum and it inspired me to start drawing again. I drew these with my non-dominant hand.

#notmypresident
I added the background to the image and fixed some of the text while I was in photoshop. I have never done that before. It feels like cheating somehow, but I am just going to go with it for now. The protest was great and it was interesting to watch people. I was sorry that I didn't bring my video camera with me so I could film people and ask them questions. I think I will next time. I feel like there is something to be discovered there.

Punch
I wasn't looking for a picture of someone being punched, but I came across this image and found it interesting- the expression, what happens to the face etc. I have been spending a lot of time with the drawings, but want to loosen up the process, so decided to move faster and not try to fix things. I did this quickly and decided to not judge the process.

Another set of new watercolors
This is another set of watercolors. This set has 36 colors and I wanted to see what happened when I had so many beautiful colors to choose from. I noticed that I was worried about making a 'mistake' or doing something 'wrong' when I was painting. I am thinking of drawing over this picture today and then paint over that and see what happens. It's better for me not to be precious about these pictures. Just let them be a place to try new things and play.

New watercolors
I bought some new watercolors yesterday. They are the kind that come in a tube instead of a palette. They are more like regular paint and I ended up making this. It is not how I was intending to paint this face- I wanted to be more free and just let the watercolor spill all over the paper and make something more abstract and expressionistic, but these watercolors wanted to be more precise and in the end they seem to be the ones in charge.

Face from the internet
I have been finding all the faces for these watercolors on the internet. I just search "face" and choose an image that catches my eye. I chose this one because I thought it was interesting how his eyes were so close together and seemed so small in comparison to his head. It's more dramatic in the actual photo.

A Face
Playing a game on Facebook today with friends, I was looking for artists to share with them and came across the work of Marlene Dumas. I have always liked her portraits and made this after looking at some of her expressive faces.

Mini Doodle Kit
For my birthday, Jorge gave me a mini doodle kit. It has a book of designs and all I need to do is color them in. I have been wanting to start drawing everyday again, but haven't been able to start, so I picked up the mini doodle kit tonight and just started coloring in the picture. It felt so good to not have to make decisions about what I was drawing, but to just enjoy the colors of the pencils and the physicality of putting pencil to paper.
